The way to confront your fear of snakes for example, is to learn more about them. We don't have to confront it by picking one up :), that may not be wise if it is poisonous. It is more about learning about them so you can respect their space and their habits. Isn't this in itself the truth about everything and everyone in our life? When we learn more about someone or something we are better able to achieve harmony with them. If we don't know our significant other hates the fact we leave toothpaste in the sink after we brush our teeth, how can we not do it any longer so it doesn't irritate them? It is such a simple thing, yet something that could add to the overall dis-harmony in any relationship.
It is the same with Snakes, or any creatures we encounter. We cannot be in harmony with them unless we learn what harmony means to them. They key off of our energy and emotions, if we are in fear, then they feel there is something to be feared; if we are in love, then they are also.
Snakes are about shedding old belief systems, so shedding also old fears. Snake can heal us with the very venom it poisons us with. We can be healed by looking at what is being mirrored back to us. If we don't like what is coming at us, it is like poisonous venom coming into our system. We get angry and upset at who or what is being our mirror. Yet if we look at it as a mirror of something within in us, not outside of us, then the poison becomes the cure. It is so simple, yet oftentimes so hard to do, to look at the truth of who we are that others reflect back to us. We find it easier to blame what is causing us pain, than to admit it is ourselves causing it. It seems sometimes it is one more thing to get angry at ourselves for. We reject rather than accept a part of ourselves we don't want to see, because to see it means we have to change a habit, a way of thinking, a belief system, a learned behavior, and...admit we are wrong...that is the hardest part.
We have a strong need to be right, many of us, myself included, as we have vested a lot of time, money and energy into proving ourselves right...only to learn that isn't always the case. In the process of doing this, I know in my own life I have hurt a lot of people, and I have hurt myself along with them. It is impossible to just hurt one person in proving yourself right, hmmm, never looked at it that way before. We are both right, from our own perspective of what right is, it is subjective as all concepts of right and wrong are.
So learn from snake, he/she is here this month to teach you something about yourself. It is time to heal yourself with your own poison. Recognize the beauty and the gift of the snake within you.
